I think that army guys (and veterans generally) actually have a lot to offer, but sometimes the transition process of becoming a civie isn't what it should be; I think the raw qualities that guys get from being in war zones need to be channeled into learning new skills and trades and adjusting over time into being a civilan, but often that doesn't happen.

What you describe is exactly what I see with lots of my mates - I'd almost say that it takes a lot of guys a couple of years before they get into the swing of things with a long term career.

Good luck also - and thanks for your service!

When I got back from Iraq in 2004 and got out of the Army, I had absolutely no job skills to offer the civilian corporate market.. I could spot an IED 20 meters out, I could clear a house in the dead of night, I could field strip my SAW blindfolded and put it back together again, I could survive in 117 degree heat while burning my own crap nightly, I could go without sleep for 3 days and keep a smile on face, I could find joy in a completely FUBAR Environment but all those qualities and skills did not seem to translate into a new job. Well I did what any soldier would do, I put my head down and marched forward without complaint. I eventually found a job. I guess that may be a soldiers greatest attribute, " Fortitude". Thanks for the post and good luck..
